Why can't I connect to WhatsApp for BlackBerry?

If you are experiencing any of the following problems, there is probably an issue with your network connection.

  • Cannot receive or send messages.
  • See a clock next to sent messages.
  • Receive a "local connection timeout" error.
  • See "awaiting network".
  • Other connection related problems.

If your sent messages only show one check mark, there is nothing wrong with your phone's connection. Please read this article for more information.

Troubleshooting steps

First, please make sure that you have downloaded the latest version of WhatsApp from our website.

Then, try the following steps to see if you can fix it:

  • Connect to mobile data if you haven't already.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi if you haven't already.
  • Try turning off mobile data or Wi-Fi to force connection to the other.
  • Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • From your homescreen go to Options > Networks and Connections > Mobile Network and make sure that you are connected to your mobile provider. If you are not, use Scan for Available Networks to try and connect to your mobile provider.
  • Make sure that you have granted WhatsApp the proper permissions in your phone's settings.
  • Reboot your phone.

For more information regarding connection please read this article.

If none of these steps work, you may be experiencing a temporary connection issue and should try connecting later.

If after a while you still can't connect, try contacting your mobile provider and BlackBerry to see if they can help you.

Note: WhatsApp recommends a full BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) data plan in order for WhatsApp to function properly.
