How do I delete messages or chats for Windows Phone?

You can delete individual messages, conversations, groups or clear chat history by following the steps below. Deleted messages are permanently deleted from your phone. Read this article for information on backing up and recovering deleted chats.

Instead of deleting or clearing chat history, you may wish to hide conversations by using our Archive Chat feature.

To delete an individual message or media from a conversation

Open WhatsApp and the chat window with the message or media you want to delete.
Tap and hold on the message or media bubble.
Select delete from the menu.
Confirm by selecting delete.

To delete an individual chat

Open WhatsApp.
In the chats screen, tap and hold on the chat you wish to delete.
Select delete from the menu.
Confirm by selecting delete.

To delete a group chat

Before deleting the group chat you will need to exit the group. Note: That means you will need to be re-added by the group admin if you wish to continue participating in the group chat. If you only wish to clear history of that chat, please refer to the paragraph below.

Open WhatsApp.
In the chats screen, tap and hold on the group chat you wish to delete.
From the menu select exit group and confirm by tapping exit.
Again tap and hold the group chat and select delete from the menu.
Confirm by selecting delete.

To clear history of the chat

Open WhatsApp and the chat you want to clear.
Tap More > info for individual chat or group info for a group chat.
Tap More > clear chat history.
From the menu select whether you want to clear all messages, older than 30 days or older than 6 months.
Confirm by selecting yes.

Note: This action will not delete the chat with a contact or group but only clear the content of that chat history.

Currently it is not possible to clear nor delete the entire chat history on Windows Phone.
